Straight Striking Wrench

Would you like to answer these questions?

This was originally a homework given to us by our Physics teacher. We computed them using the formulae for uniform motion, but it produced awkward rsults. So he just said that we were all wrong. How can this be? Please examine these questions:

1. A worker drops a wrench down the elevator shaft of a tall building.
a) Where is the wrench 1.5 s later?
b) How fast is the wrench falling just then?

2. A pitcher tosses a ball straight up with an initial speed of 12 m/s.
A) How long does the ball take to reach its highest point?
b) How high does the ball rise above its release pt.?

3. Raindrops fall to Earth from a cloud 1, 700 m above the Earth's surface. If they were not slowed by air resistance, how fast would the drops be moving when they struck the ground?

you cannot use a uniform motion equation because it is not uniform, all three examples have acceleration
