Stepper+Motor

Is it possible to replace motorcycle accelerator with a stepper motor control system?

Stepper motor may fixed near the engine to control the speed & the control switch may be fixed in place of throttle.Membrane switch for speed up/down the speed.

I assume a stepper motor or a linear servo would work fine as long as you can create the circuitry or use a plc. If you use a plc the tach output would work perfect for an input. It would be cheaper to use 2 push buttons to increment speed. Is this for a college project? If this is for a gsxr1000 log splitter with a $2000 govenor on it send me a photo.
