Should You Buy or Lease Your Company Cars?
Most company cars and vans, these days, are financed by either outright purchase or a leasing contract. Each has is positives and negatives.
Outright Purchase
The main advantage of outright purchase is ownership. When the payments have been made on your car or van it belongs to you. This will enable your company to sell the vehicles in order to retrieve some of the money spent.
The key disadvantage of outright purchase for most companies is that you must pay the full cost of the vehicle, either as a one-off lump sum or spread over an agreed period. This can mean that you must bear some significant expense especially if your company operates a fleet of vehicles. Finding enough funds to purchase vehicles outright can cause businesses some unwanted cash flow problems.
Businesses must be prepared to cover additional expenses including maintenance, insurance and breakdown recovery.
Company Car and Van Leasing
The key advantages of company car leasing to business are the benefits it brings to cash flow. Initial down payments on comapny car leasing deals is usually very low and the monthly payments are generally very affordable. This is what company accountants love about leasing. Knowing how much transports costs are from month to month makes budgeting and financial planning so much simpler.
Also, most reputable leasing companies will offer to include the cost of all maintenance in the leasing contract. They may even ofer to include broken windscreen cover and replacement tyres.
Although car insurance is not normally included in the lease contract it is often offered by the leasing company as an optional extra which, if accepted, is generally cheaper than it would be if purchased separately.
A key disadvantage of car and van leasing for many businesses is tha the vehicle never actually belongs to them. However many would see this as an advantages as your business doesn't have to be concerned with the disposal of the vehicles when the lease expires or the vehicle reaches the end of its useful life.
Another potential disadvantage is how the UK government considers a company car as benefit in kind which makes it taxable and that tax is derived from the driver. Recent UK tax changes mean that a higher rate of taxation is applied to company cars. There is, however, a tax adavantage for your company as you can claim for the vehicle as a capital cost and offset this against your company profits.
Clearly there are many factors to bear in mind when a company is considering either to lease vans and cars or to purchase them outright. There is also a great deal of competition in the car leasing industry so it is well worth shopping around for the best deal. Many vehicle leasing firms will give you free breakdown cover and offer flexible mileage plans to entice your business. So it makes sense to shop around, get quotations from several reputable companies and don't grab the first leasing deal that comes your way.
I need to replace the stem of a Delta offset handle faucet . . .?
. . . but the allen screw that holds the handle onto the stem is reamed out. I can't find a screw extractor small enough (3/32) to get into the hole and take the screw out. Also, all the screw extractors have a flange that prevents me from getting the working end of the extractor far enough into the screw access hole.
I can drill out the allen screw, but then I will have corrupted the threads that hold the allen screw and will need to buy a whole new faucet. Any ideas?
it is possible to drill it out without ruining the existing threads, you just have to go slow and be steady, however, if you do screw up the threads, you can also get a threader and re-thread the hole and buy a new set screw for it, also, if you contact delta you should be able to buy just a new handle from them instead of a new faucet. you can also get handles at home depot.
