Make Your Own Whitewash Furniture

The popularity of whitewash furniture is something that has changed over time. At the moment its popularity is in state rapid incline and a result of this is that prices are soaring. There are places that you can buy high quality white furniture such as beds and bedside tables for good a good price, but if you want to make your own here is how.

1.First you need to take the piece of furniture you want to whitewash and sand it down. This can be achieved simply by using a sanding block or an eclectic sander. If the paint is really thick then you may need to strip is chemically. You then need to clean the wood thoroughly to remove all dirt, dust and sawdust. wait for a while so that the item becomes touch dry

2.You then need to mix together one parts water with two parts white latex paint in a plastic container. you need to get hold of a 3" high quality paint brush and make sure you have a moist clean cloth to wipe away any mistakes you make. Brush the wood following along the line of the grain and use broad sweeping strokes. The paint will naturally soak right into the wood so you'll need to give each patch a number of coats.

3.When you have covered the piece completely and whilst it is still damp to the touch, wipe a cloth along the grain until it starts to show through again. This will make the wood appear like it has a light stain and if you want a thicker more weathered look, simply repeat the previous steps to build up the layer.

4.When you are happy with the look, give it a light sanding again to bring out the grain again and then seal the wood using clear satin polyurethane. Let the product dry again, rub over it gently but thoroughly with a nylon abrasive pad and then repeat this last step as many times as needed to get the right look. Use this method to create a great white wardrobes, bedside table or even dresser.

What are some solutions to remove rust from metal other than abrasive(sanding) methods?

I'm looking for a product(hopefully liquid) that can remove rust from deep spots in metals. Anyone know of any such products?
Thanks

Navel Jelly, has been around for many years. Check with someone at a local hardware store, they may have some newer and better options. Not to mention that they will have it there on the shelf, so you can read the directions to find out if you need anything else to use the product. I.E. scrapers, water to wash it off, or some other chemical to neutralize the process.
