BURBANK, CA - A private plane, carrying New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, ran into trouble while attempting to land at Bob Hope Airport this Friday. This is the fifth error that A-Rod's pilot has committed in his last five landings, for a total of 27 on the year... a career high.
Reports say the trouble began when the pilot hurried his landing, causing the plane to sail off the runway and allowing White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye's plane to land safely.
Rodriguez's pilot is a 2 time MVP (Most Valuable Pilot) and widely considered the greatest pilot living today. But passengers began heckling him earlier in the year when he committed three errors in a row, including an incident on a trip to the Boston Marathon where he stranded 7 runners.
"You can't be perfect out there," explains Rodriguez's pilot. "It's a long season. I have to make 162 landings every year... I need to take it one flight at a time." The pilot continues, "I get frustrated because no one ever talks about the flights I get right... just when something goes wrong."
Yankee captain Derek Jeter's pilot has been criticized for refusing to come to his defense, but according to some, relations between the two have been strained for sometime. "Jeter's pilot despises A-Rod's pilot," reports flight attendant Alicia Whitaker, who claims friction also exists with other pilots. "A-Rod's pilot has a false confidence..." stated Yankee first baseman Jason Giambi's pilot in a quote from this month's 'Flyboy Magazine', "...and the FAA should stop coddling him."
Rumors are running rampant about a possible trade involving A-Rod's pilot, presumably to an airline where he won't be under such pressure. Qantas Airways and Aer Lingus have already expressed interest.
