Lothar here... don't know how I feel about this news. I mean... I think "The Rock" is a good choice to play "The Paddle", but "The Ball" is the more difficult role to pull off. It's not easy to make viewers believe in a square ball. Is Jack Black really the right choice? We'll have to wait and see. Of course, this info is only a rumor. Here's what our spy uncovered:
I ran into famed video game movie director Uwe Boll at a garage sale the other day. He was buying an old ColecoVision console (it was listed at two dollars, but Uwe talked them down to 50 cents). Anyway, I was curious, so I asked him why he was buying such an old game system. He told me he was doing research for a new film. After a little prodding, he told me it was "Pong: The Movie". Apparently, it's going to be a prequel to last year's hit film Arkanoid. I thought he was already working on Frogger, but he told me everything's on the backburner until he finishes Pong. He said doing Frogger before Pong would be like shooting The Sopranos before Godfather III... just dumb. He also mentioned he was interested in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jack Black for the roles of The Paddle and The Ball. I don't have a catchy spy name, so just call me Pitfall Hairy.
No word on who will play the other paddle, or whether The Rock will simply play a duel role (although that seems a bit ridiculous). I think I'd like to see a female in the roll, possibly Madonna. Her flat, wooden acting style would be a perfect fit. And let's hope Boll has the guts to be faithful to the original source material and film it in black and white! I'm still waiting for Uwe to finish the proposed "Zork" text adventure movie. Unfortunately, that film had to be put on hold back in July when Nicole Ritchie, who was slated to play the letter X, had to bow out after losing so much weight she looked more like a semicolon.
